    Default Dog gone deaf

Folks, yesterday a good Buddy went dove hunting in the morning, shot a dozen or so doves over a pasture with a tank. Most of the doves were killed on land ..a few landed in the water. Last night we went to train ...the dog has lost its hearing...gone deaf !!! He is a 18 month yellow male with excellent breeding ..very reputable breeder.. hunt test judge..etc..the dog is a machine...taking him to the vet in the morning...Has anybody heard of this before...cant really find anything on inter net.....any input ?

Check with your vet. How close was he to the gun or do you think it is the gun

It will mostly likely come back in couple days to couple weeks. It happened mine and it took about 2 weeks to regain 100%. Shewhat just turned 2 at time it happened. Went to specialist and they said it was uncommon but not heard of. There was no guarantee it would or wouldn't happen again. I have shot around her a few times since and she has been fine.

I have a 3 year old lab that lost hearing for about 2 days when he was 2. I went out to train one morning and the dog was not stopping on the whistle and would not come to me when I called him. Keep in mind this dog have some training because he is a SH. Then checked on him at lunch and he was asleep. I called for him and he did not wake. I even clapped my hands next to his head and he did not move. So I took him to the vet right then. Vet said he had some kind of clogged ear canal. The vet also said he had never seen anything like that before in his 30 years of being a vet. Gave him some ear drops, cant remember the name but will look it up, and after a few days hearing started coming back. Went back to the vet after a week and ear looked normal again. Vet could not tell me how this happened but did say I caught it just in time or the outcome could have be bad. I have not had any other problems with him since then.
