Default Breeder brag: Congrats Shon and Miko QAA

Congratulations to Shon Garrison and Pacific Rim's Princess Himiko. Today Miko with Shon handling got 2nd place in the ORTC Qualifying. Another successful amateur owner-handler team.

Miko is the 6th puppy from our Shaq x Ruby litter to become QAA. How sweet it is.

    Proud breeders,
    Don and Helen Graves

    From Ruby's 2 litters:
    13 are QAA
    2 are AFC titled
2 have all age pts. and need only a win for their AFC
    1 is an MH
1 has Master passes (at age 2-1/2)
1 is close to his MH; have to check to see if he has his MH by now
    I hope I didn't miss anything.

What a nice compliment to you as the breeder. Such wonderful working homes. You truly must be proud of all their accomplishments. Ruby must be an Outstanding Dam many times over.

Thanks for the kind words about Ruby. As a dam of only 2 litters (different sires), she has done very well.

Ruby (Carbon daughter) bred to FC/AFC Tealcreek Patton's Saber (Patton son) was a really good nick. Ruby bred to FC AFC Wood River's Franchise (Shaq) looks like another good nick. The Shaq pups are only 2 yrs. old (3 on Dec 25) so they have run in Derbies (did well, some made the Derby list) and now one by one are running in Qs with 6 so far becoming QAA. Time will tell how well they do in all age stakes, but they are certainly on their way.

We have learned that where puppies go is a major factor. I am not talking about going to pros, but going to a pro for early training is a good thing. Many of our puppies went to experienced, hard working Amateurs who train and handle their own dogs. Breeding pups for amateurs was our goal and still is. Ruby's daughter Sally (Saber litter) is the dam of our third litter (only 2 pups born April 20; they are just now being FF by their owners). Sally was bred to AFC Rockcliffs Just Doit (Nike) who was last year's Top Amateur Dog -- 100% amateur owner trained and handled as is Saber who this year so far is leading as Top Amateur Dog.

Selecting sires is not easy. We looked for those great amateur dogs, studied their pedigrees, and hoped they would pass on their aptitude and attitude to their pups. So far, the pups are what we bred for. Ruby has been a great amateur dog for Don. Alas, no more Ruby puppies. Soon to be 9 years old, Ruby was spayed last November and has passed the baton on to her daughters. From some of the owners of the Shaq daughters, I am hearing that they will be bred next year. One of the Shaq daughters who is QAA will be bred to Saber. That decision was made many months ago.
