A few short clips from a duck hunt I guided this AM. Video quality not really super but I was guiding, counting birds and handling a dog all at the same time. You will see the good parts.
We were definitely on the X. As we were setting up, the birds were buzzing right in so I had the hunters just kneel down and they never got inside the lay outs. The wind was about 15 from behind my left shoulder. I had 4 doz. goose decoys out and 1 spinner. We set up the decoys in a J hook with the spinner right at the bend.
The dog I am running was trained by Keith Farmer at Tremblin Earth Kennels. I thought he was sold to a friend but he decided to back out so I am glad to have him. The retrieves are not long or fancy, but I was proud that with all the in your face shooting, he never broke. On the retrieves you can see he is quite enthusiastic.
We shot a 3 man limit of mallards, 24, in 10 minutes. For those who like to hunt and have never done dry field hunting in Canada, you really need to put that on your bucket list. We do hunts like this about twice each week so every group almost always gets one of these.
Back in a few weeks.
