This post is just to see if any on here are interested... The British Field Trial Society of America will be running several trials in the upcoming months as well as the spring! I believe the Gulf Coast chapter will be running some soon, and I know our two chapters in the northern parts of MS will run a few novice and open stakes.

I know a lot of readers here have British lines, but that's not required. Any labrador is welcome! The trials are walk-up with hand thrown, box launched, or live flushed game. They are run under the rules of the KC, and we have several A & B Pannel judges as well as some apprentice judges.

Definitely not an attempt to take away from AKC trials, AKC tests, UKC tests, etc. It's just a different way to have fun with your dog! We do award those who place, but we aren't running under any kennel club (just following the rules of one) so, you get bragging rights and a cool trophy! But hey, your dog doesn't know what all of her initials stand for anyway!

Post here or email me (barton@southernoakkennels.com) if you want more info! I would love to meet new folks and run dogs on a fun day's shooting together!

It typically is but several have brought Springers and we'd love to have some goldens participate.

There are a few folks in Ohio and Pensylvania who have shown interest in starting a club. Our hope is that there would be clubs across the country and we might come together once a year for a national competition. Clubs are not difficult to form, and the trials are relatively easy to put on - not nearly as much gear as an AKC trial. A stake requires 10 dogs to be "official" and there are maximum numbers depending on the stake & amount of days.

I guess the most difficult part would be finding judges, but I know some of the folks down here would love to travel for the sport! The rules are fairly simple to understand...

I think he's scared to have Goldens participate, Barb. It is a pheasant shoot, after all! Just kidding Barton!

Hope someone takes Bridgett up on her offer and that these events spread across country. So fun! Every retrieve is different and you never know what you're going to get.

Good luck with your event Barton!

These are really fun events to run. As Bartonna 500 said we are not running under kennel club although if you have 3 open wins you will get a certificate from The British Field Trial Society of America that will make your dog a field trial champion (FTCH) in this society. Would love to have some hunt test folks and field trial folks give it a go. These trials are run under the Retriever Rules of the Kennel Club in England.
