    I would certainly want to watch one and/or participate in a training day before entering one, which is why I asked.

    The website is a bit behind! I'm working on that part - guy who runs it is a really great guy, just busy! We had a working test in July & one in Aug, both included novice and open stakes. We just had a novice trial last weekend, and I'm hosting an open stake trial with a puppy stake in November!

    You can go "like" the River Valley British Retriever Club or Southern Oak Kennels on Facebook to see current & upcoming events.

    Also, there is a diff btwn novice & open with BFTSA and AKC. For BFTSA, a pro can run a dog in the open so long as that dog hasn't won a novice event. There may be other ways to phase out of novice, such as two second places, but I can't remember. The stakes are determined by the dog, not the handler.

    A dog can run a novice as long as it hasn't won a novice trial or placed in an open trial.
