My friend purchased a puppy 2 weeks ago and took it in for the next round of shots. He was told the right testicle has not dropped yet and to wait 3 months and get it rechecked. If it still hasn't dropped he should get him neutered as it's most likely hereditary. Can anyone give him some advice?
Sometimes it can take up to a year for the second testicle to drop. If not, the general consensus is that the dog should be neutered. The retained testicle has a high chance of becoming cancerous.
I guess if he bought the dog for breeding he ought to call the breeder and have a talk. Otherwise, wait and see, and plan on having that retained testicle removed surgically if it never drops. If he isn't going to breed him, and the testicle drops, then no problem.
You'd think at least the breeder would have been aware of the situation even if the buyer didn't check or didn't know to check.
