Default what every dog owner needs to know... NOT GDG - health & how to save your dog!

This is a great you-tube video of how to save your dog in emergency situations. I think it is very well done.

Check it out. The 5 minutes could save your dog's life.

LOL at Dr. Ed. That was my thought exactly the first time I viewed it. I imagine that if a dog is in real trouble it would be awful nice to have a helper. Thank you Susan for posting it here. I saw it on Facebook but couldn't forward it to RTF with my dying I-Pad!

I have only shared this with a handful of people. Three years ago, my 15 yr old MH with LP had a coughing fit. She coughed so hard that it triggered the vegus nerve--she dropped like a sack of potatoes. Her heart stopped, gums were white, and her body eliminated. I screamed for my husband from inside the kennel...he heard me even though he was in the house! He came out and I hollered for him to call the emergency clinic since my doc was out of town.

I started chest compressions and closed-mouth breathing. Told my husband to get the car. He kept saying, "She's gone," and I kept saying "not yet!!" As he drove, I was in the back seat of the Honda Element with Scarlett between my knees. I kept up the compressions and breathing. Half-way to the clinic, she coughed and revived. By the time we got her there, she was conscious, but groggy.

Took her back to the exam table, where she started wagging her tail. All blood work was NORMAL--more normal than a 15-yr old should be. Only her liver enzymes were elevated which was from lack of oxygen. The doc kept quizzing me--I told her SHE WAS GONE--no pulse, no breathing.

They kept her overnight on some tranquilizers. When I picked her up the next morning, her discharge instructions said, "limit exertion and exercise to manage her Laryngeal Paralysis. Scarlett is lucky her Mom knew how to save her life."

Scarlett was with us a year and 9 months longer before she had a stroke and we had to let her go just shy of 17 years old.

    IT DOES WORK!!

We had a Japanese Chin die on us at work last summer. Totally limp, blue tongue, eyes rolled back, the whole 9 yards. I started CPR on her and after a couple minutes, she came back around! It was amazing to see and was so glad it worked!!!

Oh, I remember that one! Frightening. Good thing you knew what to do. I've only had to do CPR on humans.....
