Thread: Problems with pup

    Default Problems with pup

I am in the process of training my second retriever pup, so i am fairly new to this and was hoping to get some advice. I have a 4 month old female british lab, who I am training using Evan's Smartwork system. She has been progressing very well until earlier this week when she broke early and got hit by a bumper in the mouth while i was throwing a mark. She bit down when the bumper hit her, and made a small gash in the side of her tongue. If that's not bad enough it also happened to be during the same session that i introduced her to real birds. She has dealt with wings a lot before this but no whole birds. Now she is acting scared, and shying away from bumpers, and birds. Not sure how to correct this problem without making it worse. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

It has happened to me with bumpers. I don't recall a gash but dogs bite their tongues all the time. Just give her a break for a few days

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

There are things you just can't fix. Can't fix stupid, can't fix a neutered dog & you can't fix junk!

I've done the same thing they forget faster than you have been worrying about it.

I banged my knee on the coffee table one time real bad... I still go near the coffee table

Don’t over think it - keep training fun - she will get over it just fine! ENJOY puppy time!!! they grow up too fast.
