    Default Retrieving problems

I just recently got a 8 month old lab from someone who did not want her anymore. When trying to retrieve the dog will bring the dummy almost back and then stop just far enough from me. How do you correct this or other problems that that you want to correct in an older pup. Any help would be appreciated!

Same as ou do for an 8 week old... Run backwards, twirling another bumper saying hup hup.....make it fun. Start in a controlled area first though - like the hallway with all the doors closed. Lots of praise and pets when she brings it to you.

Pup runs out and picks up bumper from instinct, and brings it back to you from training. justicedog has the answer, treat the 8 mos. old like an 8 wk. old and teach it to come to you when called reliably, separately from retrieving. You can overdo the retrieving, but you can never overdo the recalls.
