I am using the SMARTWORK Program but I appreciate all advice and comments as I believe most (and I said most) programs that include force fetch are generally the same, especially at the beginning when teaching "HOLD". I have a 10mth old female Labkin. She is obedience trained and collar conditioned to all desired obedience commands. She has been taught the "FETCH" command from day one by commanding fetch to generally all marks. She is now steady on the line and only fetches on the command. She breaks from time to time but I'm OK with that right now. What I'm getting at is she understands the command "FETCH" not fully of course, hence the need for FF.
Moving along to my question......
In the beginnings of FF, "HOLD" is being taught. I have not seen the command "FETCH" used in the beginning of FF when teaching "HOLD". As in using the word FETCH (which my dog knows) to allow the dog to receive the bumper/paint roller easier and then command/teach HOLD. (It is not used in the SMARTFETCH DVD or any YouTube’s that I've searched.
Can the command FETCH be used in conjunction with the teaching of HOLD? Would it hurt? It seems that it would actually help the dog to work through the next step of ear pinch. Or is there a reason we should keep it separate?
Thanks to all that reply
