    Default Baxter just came home

The family settled on the name Baxter on the drive home. He did ok. He only threw up twice. He and our older dog seem to be getting along fine. 20130616_134859.jpg

Nice looking little guy. Enjoy the puppy time.
What if all we have today is what we gave thanks for yesterday?

Well we had a slight set back yesterday. We have a self closing door when coming in from the garage. I thought he was in front of me as I was holding his food bowl. Well he was behind me and the door closed on his foot. I felt so horrible. I thought he would be ok. He would limp for a while but was not crying later on. The next day he kept limping and now was whimpering a bit. We took him to the vet and the poor guy had a broken toe. $350 later he was out of the vet feeling better with a little pain med and a nice new collar. I feel better that he is fixed I literally couldn't sleep last night because I felt so bad.

I was quite surprised at the vet bill but at this point I did not care. I have never needed a vet for anything other than shots as none of my dogs have ever been injured. $199 for x-ray's, $50 for the pain shot, $50 for the exam, $30 for the foot wrap, $7 for his new necklace. Seem right or do I need a new vet?

Well he seems to be a trooper and will get through this.

Always keep in mind the old saying, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Always remember they are dogs, it is up to us to control the situations we find ourselves in sometimes. I learned this the hard way too!

We are missing Baxter. He recovered well from the toe issue. I was going to do my best to train him however with time constraints and my ability to not be a very good trainer we sent him away. He is off to our friends at the Raney Ranch. We know Steve and Carrie are taking great care of him and we look forward to getting him back.
