Is there something wrong with sport dog I don't know about, or are dogtra collars just that much better? I just got the sport dog 425s and so far it's been working fine for me.

My experience has been that they are extremely unreliable. We were given 2 or 3 at one point and they were so iffy that we threw them away after about week.

I had horrible experiences with SportDog (do a search), I ended up smashing the last one they gave me with a hammer and throwing it away. An absolute waste of money and time.

It's actually incredible in the hand. Fits perfectly. The only little challenge I have had is using boost in two dog mode (on the two dog model). Generally though I and clients have been very comfortable with them. I use the 1 mile version and give most of my customers the half mile. The half mile has a slightly smaller hockey puck.

I would never have changed had I not been able to get one in my hand at a show recently. The fit of the transmitter to hand is the thing that actually pushed me over the edge.

Interesting to hear that folks have had such poor experiences with SportDog. I've owned an SD 1875 for several years (multi-collar), used almost everyday, with zero issues.
