We only sell 4 to 5 litters a year. I have never had a pro do what you described. I have had A LOT of NOT PRO's call and say they were going to buy a pup and not follow through. I all ways get a phone # and when the deposit check is a no show I make a phone call to see what happened. I don't want to cross them off the list if there was a legitimate problem getting the deposit in. (they might get on the RTF and make it sound like EVERY breeder is a rotten nasty no good low life)Most times they have found something they like better. (translation something cheaper) That is the best way I have found to deal with it. I'm not super smart, but I don't blame others for my own poor business decisions, and I don't try to blame everyone that shares the same profession with the one who offended me.

Until you have a deposit in your hand, it's not a deal, it's an inquiry.

Know of one recently where a guy who said he was not a pro and not an agent bought all the pups in a litter except one... (small litter, less than 6). When I asked him if he was a pro, he said no. But he did admit to buying the pups with the intent to sell them to someone else. I thought it was a little strange, but I think he was using it as a business opportunity. I didn't think much good about it.

I'm hoping the breeder knew what was going on, or knew the buyer and what the plan was for the pups.

To OP, I don't know what your marketing plan is; it's always unfortunate when someone such as a pro, or anyone for that matter, makes a deal and backs out. I think he/she was working you to get what they really wanted from someone else. But if you're getting your contacts via the internet, etc., it's amazing, to me anyway, who comes out of the woodwork promising to buy your pups. Personally, I'd look at it as a good thing in the long run.
