Thread: Arthritis in 9 month old

  1. #1

Default Arthritis in 9 month old

I have a YLF that's 9 months old. I had her spayed last week and had x-rays of her hips and elbows while she was under. Her right elbow shows minor Arthritis on it. Not being able to exercise due to the surgery, it became really noticeable. She is limping around pretty good this week. After reading the thread about Arthritis medications, I noticed that all of the dogs are older. Has anyone had experience with Arthritis on a young dog? I have an appointment with a specialist tomorrow morning and I'm trying to find out what my options are. Thanks in advance.

Early degenerative joint changes in the elbow of a 9 month old are probably the result of one of the following:

    1. Ununited or fragmented coronoid process
    2. Osteochondritis of the distal humerus
    3. Ununited anconeal process

All are repairable but the joint changes are not reversible.
