I reread Lardy's RJ article on Guidelines for Poison Birds. Some highlights:
Start out using bumpers
The blind should be known (pattern blind) and outside the mark
Bring the dog to the line, say "no bird"
Step back and heel dog on opposite side
Say "dead bird"
Send dog for blind
Don't call back for a poor line
No collar pressure, just attrition
Don't pick up the poison bird if the blind is a struggle
If the dog does good then pick up the poison bird
Say "mark" when lining up for the poison bird
Today the wind was very light blowing right to left a bit. The Bumper Boy with a white stickman was at 175 yds throwing left to right. The blind was 200 yds.
So here's Rowdy
Rowdy had done this blind earlier in the week. He had a hook but I was letting him roll as long as he wasn't sucking to the poison bird.
