Thread: Antlers as chew toys

    Default Antlers as chew toys

Is there anything I need to do to deer antlers prior to giving them to my dog? Wondering if I need to boil, age etc? What would be the preferred length? Thanks

I cut the tips of each point off , to help keep them from taking a point to the eye. I've seen that happen and it's ugly. Thats all I have ever done once I take each side off the skull.

You should see what they charge for antlers at pet smart.

I tried them, dogs loved the things. After the $3200 dental bill I decided they could do without the antler chews.

Mine will chew on the big ones that are split so they can get at the softer center part, then they leave them all over the place where I inevitably find them with the lawn mower.

Just about the worst thing you can have your dog chew on. Unless you like broken teeth. Stay away from the antlers.
