I already know the answer to this question (get an X-ray), but thought I would get some response from your guys. Let me start by saying that my 2 year old Chocolate Female has never shown any signs of ailments. About a months ago I was letting Bailey outside in the evening and she brought me a ball (it was quite dark outside). As she was running out I lost sight of her and I heard a light yelp and she came back not wanting to put weight on her right hind leg. I immediately checked for something serious, but she started putting full weight on it very quickly and she seemed fine. ever since then, when I let her out of her kennel she does a classic "bunny hop" trot and after about a minute she's fine. After this went on for several days I rested her for about a week. she seemed fine. About 10 days ago she was playing in the house going bat-crap crazy like she does when I first let her in and she got a little off balance and jumped from a chair to a couch and I heard a little yelp and the same thing. She berifly wouldn't put wieght on it, but in a few minutes she seems fine, except for the little bunny hop trot. This dog is a little hard to read. She will jump as high as she wants and runs completely flast out kicking up dirt when I let her out to air. She shows no lack of strength or desire to run. Obviously the pessimist in me starts thinking hips, but hopeful it might be a light sprain possibly causing some inflamation. I actually would feel kind of silly telling the Vet my dog occassionally "bunny-hops" favoring one leg, but can run like a scolded rabit seemingly without any discomfort.
Part of me wants to give it a little longer since she is not in discomfort. I am tempted to test her for HD, but I have read of dogs on here that have had HD and have no symptons. I would hate to get the HD diagnosis and lable her and it turns out to be a sprain really causing the problem and the HD would just worry me even more. She is fixed so I won't be breeding.
