    Default Back door Gun Control?

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Governm...or-Gun-Control

The premise of this article is that the Obama Administration is side-stepping congress and using the EPA to control the production of ammunition. The idea of these people abusing their power to get what they want is not far fetched. It seems that every move they make has ulterior motives. This sounds like it is right out of the Obama play book.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

Based on the quote below from the story, I guess I would need to look closer into the genesis of this thing. Because you know, Obama wasn't sworn in until January 2009...

The first contact the EPA made with The Doe Run Lead Smelter in Herculaneum, Missouri (population 2,800) was in 2008, but it was in 2010 that the EPA finally forced Doe Run to plan a shutdown. This plant has been in operation since 1892 but will finally close its doors this month. It was the last primary lead smelting plant in the U.S.
    This is my first thought...

That's about what I would expect you to say Buzz, but I was hoping some of you might offer up some "logical" insight. Is this just about emissions?

I doubt it is about gun control, think of everything that uses lead. Batteries, fishing weights, too many to list. Might just be another example of the big government sending jobs out of the country. Bullets can be made out of many, many materials. I think if it was about gun control, they would go after some key ingredient in smokeless powder.

Honestly I need to look into it. But I could not resist the Bush in a tin foil hat thing. Sorry, but I thought it was funny... Especially since it was Bush's EPA that started the ball rolling.

Brad : they know they cant beat the 2A in the courts, so the alternatives are to tax the heck out of the use of them or make the components illegal..Think about it , what good are guns if you make the bullets illegal or declare them hazardous materials, and tax the heck out of people for dispersing (shooting) their lead components into the atmosphere...

One of the other "backdoor" consequences of the ACA are that if you dont pay the "penalty, tax" it can prohibit you from owning a gun, because one of the questions on the Brady act, clearly states, are you a felon, or have you ever been convicted of a felony...You answer yes to either or falsify the answer when you have an outstanding lien from the govt and you are in violation of the Brady Act...

They have already removed lead from many products and forced waterfowl hunters to use non toxic loads...whats to keep them from going one step further

EPA has way too much power...Why hasnt there been any new oil refineries built in the USA ? because they cant pass EPA standards

Had to respond to this diversion... what a bunch of right wing bs. Everyone becomes an environmentalist when a refinery is proposed in their back yard and haven't you figured out that it would be to their economic disadvantage if the oil industry built more refineries? Heck it would take away the excuse that gas prices increased 10% due to a refinery problem.......

Most lead for ammo isnt Virgin.
    It comes from recycled sources.
It is far easier to spit on the work of others than it is to produce something better yourself.

Henry, this is correct. Oil companies are no more benevolent than OPEC. They are not going to undercut their own market with oversupply. And they are not going to put huge dollars into refining capability that is not needed. And partly because of the NIMBY point of view, instead of trying to site new refineries, they have instead expanded existing sites as needed. I got a kick out of the conservative farmers in South Dakota. Not long ago there was a big refinery proposed for the SE corner of the state. Before you knew it, there were groups of concerned farmers fighting the refinery. Imagine that...
