Default Road Conditions South Dakota to Texas

I will probably head South today, the travel forecast is the best for the next 2-3 days but road conditions in Texas as still awful and I no longer drive that far in one day. The forecast for Nebraska and Kansas is 1-3 inches of snow beginning late tonight. The forecast for Sunday in OK & TX is freezing drizzle. These are the options I am considering using Mitchell SD as a starting point.

    1. 81 South to York NE and stop for the night, still 8 hours from home and known dog friendly motel with outside doors so I can plug in my block heater.
    2. Same route except stop for the night in Salina KS, about 6 hours from home but some driving after dark which I do not like but 4 lane divided all the way to IH 35.
    3. IH 90 East to Sioux Falls then South on IH 35 as far as I can get. This route is a good bit further but interstate all the way.

I have no need to be home until Monday afternoon which, given current road conditions in North Texas might be a good thing.

Any opinions, suggestions, and/or updated road conditions would be greatly appreciated.

Roads should be OK to Okalhoma City and likely clear by the time you get there...

Try wondermap, they have a weather planning trip part of their site. http://www.wunderground.com/wunderma...5.80078&zoom=4

35 south of Des Moines was the worst place I ever saw for icy road drivers a couple of years ago. Never thought you could get 1/4 mile off the road in a straight line. Probably saw 2-300 cars like that. Play safe!

I would go old Hwy 81 but option #2 Ed. I have run this route many a time over the years, when lived in NoDak.

Nebraska is clear and dry- just bitterly cold.

Solid ice here in the Wichita Falls area, but if you have to detour we have a guest room.

Impromptu bivouac in York NE, dog friendly motel, airing outside the door, football on TV, Pizza Hut next door, plenty of liquid refreshment of choice, and uncertain road conditions in KS and OK made it an easy decision.
