    Default Dummies for wingers

What bumpers and or training birds do most people use in their wingers to get the best throws?

I mostly use real ducks in my wingers, but the Avery hexbumpers have been great as well. I'd recommend the 3'' circumference bumpers as they are a bit heavier and fly better.

You could use live pigeons provide the pocket isn't too tight or any thaw dead bird will do.

LOL...Then you should maybe find another hobby...We in the retriever business are never in a hurry when it deals with our dogs.

Throw the birds frozen solid. The dogs don't seem to mind and sometimes there are some advantages to it for a young dog.

Frozen bluebill and ringneck last a long time if you keep them dry. Out of the big wingers you can get a nice big throw. Frozen spoonbill work great out of the mini wingers and box launchers. When you freeze whole birds tuck the head under a wing making like a nice football shape, this way the dogs can pick them up easier when frozen. But of course when out of season it a good idea to make sure all training birds are banded. We also breast out our big birds during season wrap the skin back over the breast bone, duck tape and freeze. You can use these for weeks if you keep them dry and refreeze after each day of use. If done right the breast is never exposed and makes it real easy for young dogs to pick up. For bumper I like throwing ATBs or the bigger bumpers.
