    Default Hard core dog!

Just got back from Maine. This dog is a pup I gave to my friend Troy Fields of Traditions Guide Service in Maine. She will be 2 in Feb. Temp was 1 deg at launch time with a 15 mph wind. This is Troy's first retriever( he posted some pics on here last yr of her first season) and I was impressed. Jumping off the boat into the ocean at those temps, this dog has guts. Both days we called it quits as soon as she looked a little cold and she gets to spend the rest of the day streached out in front of the wood stove. Great house dog as well.

Yup, she's a keeper! There are some other pictures of Pearl in the Hunting Pictures thread. She's been a dream to train, great family addition and priceless on the hunts. Thanks for the genetics Dave. Great seeing you and Amy again.

    Dave and Troy,
Great little dog and nice friend to gift you such a precious and precocious pup! Troy, how to put the guns on the X. Nice mixed bag with the Eider, Old Squaw, and Scoter. Give that pup a scratch on the head for me!

Agreed Irishwhistler, Pearl was a great gift and Dave and Amy are great friends! The "x" comes and goes, we thought we had missed it as we watched many birds skirt us at a couple hundred yards that day, the north wind and sea swell dictated location. The sea smoke helped and it's always cool to see the white drake eiders emerge from the smoke low on the deck and headed for the spread. I am fortunate to have all five species where I hunt and it's not uncommon to shoot 3-5 of the species on a trip, all drakes is a little more difficult. As I type, Pearl has had breakfast and is now enjoying the warm of the wood stove. Merry Christmas all.

Hunting the big water is a blast with a dog. I do it here in WI on Lake Michigan and the Bay of Green Bay for late season divers. We have a dog boat that attaches to the layout boat so the dog has it's own spot to sit and lay down.

Great photos and nice mixed bag!
