Looking in from the outside, Garmin's acquisition of TT wasn't necessarily for their technology. I fell it was probably more in line with acquiring their customer base and name notoriety. The Garmin name is very notable and with their abilities to manufacture in a larger scale, thus keeping costs lower, their intentions were to retain the TT loyal but have the ability to go after the market share winner of Sportdog and their lower cost, lower quality products sold by the likes of Cabelas and other retail outlets.

So since I have a TT G2 Pro 100 system that I always planned I would just add another collar to whenever I got 2 dogs to run, which will finally be this year; I guess I either switch the collar back and forth between dogs, or buy a whole new system?!? I am very happy with my control & collar, but seems silly to get another compatible collar for this model unit with all that I have read here TT-G almost forcing me to go to competitor, no sense paying TT prices for lower grade product, that I can get cheaper elsewhere.

If your Pro 100 transmitter is expandable to more than one receiver, you should be able to just add a new receiver with collar and field marry it to the transmitter. The new receiver that marries to the G2 will also marry to a G3 if you ever chose to buy a new transmitter.

As long as your transmitter is the EXP variety, you should easily be able to add another receiver to avoid having to swap collars between dogs mid-session.

EDIT: DOH....I just realized I fell into my own trap. I already wrote yesterday that I was done discussing this topic in writing. Sorry all! I just felt Dogluvah may be able to benefit from a comment.

Now I'm out for real on this.

What are everyone's thoughts about buying an older TT pro 500 XLS vs a new 500 G3. I love my older model and want another. Use it way more than my g2 flyway. Wanting another collar this year and not sure if I should bite the bullet for a new g3

Yes Chris that was my understanding and my plan, but is it smart to put money into a system that is being eliminated and can't be serviced?

Since you already own it...adding another collar gives you likely at least 4 years of service (if not double that) at a total cost of 750.00 or 17 bucks a month.

Is it a sure thing they are discontinuing the Pro 500, or are we just speculating?

Only speculating, as far as I can tell.

Got to watch those rumors. Makes me want to buy a new one just in case.

I called today and asked, they were a little guarded but have plenty of Pro 500s.

Of course I never believed BB would close up either...
