    Default Little Rock Ar

My dad is having surgery Jan 13 @ the heart hospital, is there any place close one can get a decent meal without having to go chain? Really hoping this will only be a two day trip but preparing for any problems ahead of time. Also, will be driving 167 from Lake Charles La. Any towns (speed traps) I need to be aware of on my trip?

your just in luck. i work at the Convention and Visitors Bureau in LR. we put out the dining guide which covers all restraunts in the city. here's a link to it:

    http://www.littlerock.com/!userfiles...INING-2011.pdf

West Little Rock which is where the heart hospital is, starts on page 42 but midtown, cantrell road, hilcrest, and heights are all no more than 10-15 min drive. unless during rush hour then it might be hour or so drive

map of the districts starts on page 84. try not to venture into southwest LR

any other brochures can be found here:

    http://www.littlerock.com/travel-tools/information/

my personal picks of just west LR: bbq=whole hog, steak=arthur prime's, mock-cajun (i'm sure you have the real deal)=copelands, fried everything and good all around food=krazy mike's shrimp and wings, japanese/steak=kobe, italian=ya ya's, pizza (tie)= damgoode pies/shotgun dan's/US pizza, burger=big orange

most of these are pricey except krazy mike's, pizza places, and whole hog. there is alot of good food out there for cheaper though

im gonna have to disagree on that. krazy mikes has the best catfish. and best boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, po boys, wings, chicken tenders, etc etc

had cock of the walk once was sick all night. i think they let the fish marinade in oil before frying it in oil then dip it in oil before serving. extremely greasy. ambiance was nice though

course its in north little rock and they dont pay 2% tax to us so i might be biased. north little rock's is 3% though

Thanks Blake, planning ahead and hoping its not needed. Rarely eat seafood more than 100 miles from any coast and since I live basically on the coast seafood isn't a biggie. My big concern driving in is where not to venture.

The Arkansas Heart Hospital is on the west side of town... finding local spots is not extremely easy on this side of town as it's extremely commercial and a ton of chains are out here. Little Rock's a pretty tame town despite the stories, but generally if you stay west of University Avenue and north of Interstate 630, you should be fine. Here's a quick list of places in the vicinity of the hospital:

    Local Places
Krazy Mike's Shrimp & Wings: great food and they cook it fresh, so it tends to be a little slow.
Whole Hog BBQ: 2-time World BBQ Champs ... enough said.
Senior Tequila's: if you like authentic Mexican and not TexMex
Shotgun Dan's Pizza: my personal favorite
Alley Oops: sounds like a sportsbar; but it's about as far from it as you can imagine.

    Chains
    Crackerbarrel
    Dunkin Donuts/Krispy Kreme
    Panera Bread
    Corky's
    On the Border
    PF Changs
    Texas Roadhouse
    Copeland's
    Macaroni Grill
    Jason's Deli
and a few hundred others within five miles

Hampton, AR, (just north of El Dorado) used to be a pretty big speed trap but I haven't been that way in over a decade, so I'm not much help there.

    WOW!!!

I is gonna get in trouble fer this..

First I wanna say Prayers sent for your Dads full recovery..

    OK,, Here goes!

Your dad is going in for a heart proceedure I presume...

Heart disease is hereditary. You may be predisposed.

As Usual,, please consider the advice given here on this board,, they may all well be expert at pinchin ears,, but I dont think they understand good diet.

I would sugest you look for a high quality fully prepped salad bar.. (low cal dressing)

And then run 4 sprints to a 150 yrd "Back Pile"

Prayers sent for you Dad,,,,,,, Ray,,,

(Icant believe you guys and your advice sometimes)
