    Default Problems with the Clicker

I am working on my handling with my pup and I am having someproblems. Im having issues with my dog hearing my clicker corrections at adistance 50+ yards, thus he just runs wild. What do you guys use to help withthis? I thought about a megaphone ????

Opinions will certainly vary. But I see clickers as being very limited in training retrievers for fieldwork. I think they're fine for puppy training to introduce fundamental obedience commands. That's it.

If you plan to train a handling dog you'll need to learn far more about field training, and that will be best done by learning how to instill formal Basics.

The components of Basics in order

    1) “Here”
    2) “Heel & Sit”
    3) “Hold”; automatically evolves to Walking “Hold, Heel, Sit”
    4) “Fetch”; ear pinch, which evolves into Walking “Fetch” & “Fetch-no-fetch”, e-collar conditioning to “Fetch”
    5) Pile work, including Mini-pile, Nine bumper pile; AKA Force to pile
    6) 3-handed casting; teaching the 3 basic casts – “Back” and both “Over’s”, including 2-hands “Back”
    7) Mini tee; includes collar conditioning to all basic commands, transferring to the go, stop, cast functions in micro dimension as preparation for the Single tee. Also includes De-bolting
    8) Single tee
    9) Double tee
    10) Water tee with Swim-by

Are these terms familiar to you?

Clicker corrections? Can you elaborate on what you are doing with the clicker? Are you using it to indicate to the dog that he/she is doing something wrong?

If you're going to spoof on clickers, it helps if you know what they're used for and not used for! Otherwise it's not as funny as it could be...

The only fishing I'm doing is for more information. It's hard to remember everyone, or to know what's really behind an OP. The explanation of O.C. training emerges in many forms. It often produces good discussion, however it starts.

dgengr, shame on you for caving in so quickly, you had 'em going.
Ken B, shame on you for rescuing his victims so quickly. That shouldn't be done until pg 2 or 3
Never let em off the hook until they're netted, perhaps even scaled, gutted and fried.
In the future, after you post bait like this, if you can't handle the responsibility go away for a few days.
Go have high time in Colorado, I hear the lines are shorter now.
This had potential to make the 5-useless pages slum of honor. damn rookie
Got to at least give it time for Bubba and /paul chime in, or have a mod shut it down.
I don't make the rules, just try to live by them
