Love the surveillance Erik!
I second the armadillo theory. They can produce some serious holes. At our place we have both a huge rabbit population and armadillo. I've got holes next to holes next to crawfish holes. lol

You know, after Eriks post, I dont think it started till after wife started putting out a bird feeder. I used to have a game cam but forgot what tree I left it on
Trapping armadillos is a serious challenge. Tractor Supply sells a trap. I have looked at some of the professional critter control set ups. They use the trap I suggested but have another significant feature. They have a rather long v shaped low fence to guide the critters into the trap opening. This is done as they don't see we'll.
I have tried it without success.
The only success I had was with one of my long ago labs. He would chase them down and bring them back. I would then kill it. He did this so often that I could recognize his armadillo alert bark. Armadillos can run fast. The dogs name was Rambo.

I knew a guy that trained beagles for trials. He had a 20 acre area fenced off to keep rabbits in for training his dogs. I had too many rabbits on my property and he always wanted more rabbits to add to his training area. I supplied him with a few rabbits and he let me deer hunt on his property. This is the trap he used and it worked well with rabbits. Simple to build and cheap. Excuse my rough sketch but I didn't think it is CAD worthy. He built wooden boxes closed on one end with a dropping door on the other. Covered with brush these boxes seem to work better than steel live traps. It's just a wood tunnel to the rabbit. You probably should check your local trapping laws to see if it's legal or not. Here's the trap...

If you decide to stick a gun down the hole and a gun barrel comes out of a tree next to, whatever you do, don't shoot!!

You may want to look in the yellow pages and find a certified master baiter with a proper trap.
