    Default warm weather training

Question for the board-Our Boykin Pup should be about ready to start training may-june of this year. I'd rather get him in with a trainer near here (Louisiana). my question is regarding warm weather training. is summer heat too much? are you still getting in quality training when your trying to "beat the heat" for the day?

    Thanks,
    Tim

My kennel is in East Texas in Longview so the weather is very similar. I still train during the summer months but just have to modify a few things so that we don't put the dogs in jeopardy. I usually hit the field as early as possible in the morning and do a land set up and then do water after when it is starting to warm up. I always quit at noon at the latest. Even during the hottest of years it is usually about 80 overnight and first thing in the morning and doesn't hit 100 until about noon. From there it's anyone's guess how hot it will be. I then usually do another session of yard drills at dark but sometimes it is still 100 as the sun is below the horizon so you just have to read your dog and light your property like a football stadium!

so far i'm pretty impressed with the pup-great temperament and attitude. i think he's going to be a keeper.

Tony-thanks for the input. was trying to decide if it was better to get him in over the summer or wait for fall but then we miss a hunt season.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. If you send your dog during th cold months they can't do water work.
