    Default Tests per year?

just curious, how many tests on average do you guys run with a single dog in a year weather it be field trials or hunt tests? Is this something that serious guys do once a month, once a year or........................? And if you fail a test on a day is there another chance that day or is it a one chance deal til the next test you find? As you can see I don't know much about the test game. Just trying to learn as I go here I guess

My dogs love to run hunt tests and I love to run them. I am only limited by how much money and time I can afford to spend. AKC if you do not pass the land run in the morning, you do not get to run the water test later in the day. With HRC you get to keep running regardless. Both run a land and water each day Sat. is one test and Sunday is another test. If you past both land and water both days you get a pass for each day....you can look on AKC's website and find detailed rules for tests and trials. You can look on the Hunting Retriever Club's website to find the rules on HRC tests and titles....this should be your starting point, read the information....

Too many. I have some young, up and coming dogs, that will only see a maximum of 8 tests this year.

Hopefully 15 to 20 weekend competitions per year (over 7 months) (5 months of year no events just train) at each competition dog may run 2 stakes during their peak years.

Depends on the dogs and it depends on you. When I was younger and more willing to drive long distances, I ran 15+ trials a year. Now, I run around 8.
Competition does not build character - It reveals it.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess if you have the money and are willing to travel you can run a lot throughout the year. I can see this becoming another expensive hobby. lol. As if duck hunting isn't expensive enough
