If it is legal ,how does it work if a smoker tests positive for THC in the work place ? I would think a revamp of the standard "dirty urine" test would be in need ,due to the fact that is covers 30 to 60 days back. The effects of alcohol last far longer than weed on a per use basis.

If I drank beer on a Friday night, then got hurt at work on Monday, and blood work showed that yes I did have trace amounts of alcohol in my system ,but was is determined that it did not effect how my performance was at the time of injury. Then the same situation happens ,but weed was Friday nights fun instead of beer?

So will companies be forced to do away with the standard drug screening tests for employment due to it being legal to consume on your time.

    Laws & Taxes

    Tobacco Taxes & Payments

Cigarettes are one of the most heavily taxed consumer products in the United States. Federal, state and local governments collect more money from the sale of cigarettes than retailers, wholesalers, farmers and manufacturers combined.
    Visit TransformTobacco.com to learn more.
Here are some of the facts about tobacco taxes today:

    • Since 1998, governments at all levels have collected more than $484.6 BILLION in cigarette taxes (including sales tax) and payments from smokers.
    • Settlement payments, federal, and state and local taxes on cigarettes for fiscal year 2012 amounted to more than $43.3 BILLION.
      - Federal excise taxes - $14,870,000,000
      - State and local excise taxes - $17,446,492,000
      - State cigarette sales taxes - $4,207,463,000
      - Tobacco settlement payments - $7,190,051,472
    • The government per-pack profit from cigarettes in 2012 was $3.78 (or 66 percent of the cost of a pack of cigarettes); almost ten times the profit of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company
    • Adult smokers make up about 18 percent of the population, yet smokers as a group are the only ones singled out for more and more "sin" taxes.
    • Cigarette tax increase proposals are made frequently - usually to fund new or expanded government programs.

Is the above what you pot users are so happy about, and High Five-ing each other over???

    Really???

    Bridget.

    I do not drink either..
I could tell you horror stories about a first marriage.
I have seen the effects first hand..

I witness something last week, that really made me think.

I had to use public transportation to go down town one afternoon.
    I rode the "Light rail".
At a stop,, there was a young girl,, very young girl,, who was holding the door open, holding the train,, so she could get the last remaining hit of weed out of her pipe!! she was panicked to take those last hits before boarding.. Kinda sad!
I do think that smoking pot in public should be illegal , just as drinking a beer on the platform would be. If there are smoke rooms, similar to a bar would be ok in public (over 21) , but not while waiting to get on a train. I am pretty sure that if drinking on the platform were legal and not on the train, you would see people guzzling beers before getting on the train.
I would love to see the stats on alcohol tax.( I will search later) The taxes on pot do not really bother me...I am sure if I were buying it and smoking it I might say differently, but then again I would not be worried about getting arrested so it is a buy off...

For fear of this turning into a Potus thread, I'd be ok with Liberals getting their pot if they agree to stop doing all the mass shootings.

This from the lowly Huffington post.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...n_4525501.html

So,, you see,, while it may be legal,, the girl at the Light rail, was breaking the LAW, THE STONERS THAT SMOKE IN CITY PARKS,, ARE STILL BREAKING THE LAW,, It still costs money to set up all the regulations, fines for driving while intoxocated, amount to be in bloodstream to be considered intoxicated... on and on..

Every employer I have worked for,if you failed your intitial drug screen,, yo uwould not be allowed to work at that company. In Fact,, one MAJOR company Ihave worked for,has a zero tolerance on drug, tobacco and alcohol use on the premises. It flat isnt allowed..
Folks would drive off the LARGE complex to smoke a cig.. I had to register my diabetic meds with human resources in order to have them on my possession. Failer to do so,if Caught, was IMMEDIATE termination... no discussion. ,,, zero tolerance.

Its legal in Colorado,,, the Broncos were warned about the leagues policy on banned substances..

So taking all this into consideration,,,,,,, what are you all high five-ing each other about?

The machine just takes your money when you legally buy it now,, and in the future,,it will become expensive comparativly because of Government regulation,, and will just force you back to the black market to get your high!

    Worth it??

    You have been Duped!!

Not to mention its still a federal offence (possession of Pot).

If you conceal carry,, and you get caught with LEGAL POT on your possession,, good by,,, to your RIGHT TO CONCEAL CARRY..

Now,,, ERIC Holder waved his majic wand,, and said their Dictatorial administration will refuse to enforce the federal law... (King Holder)

    What about future admins??

    Still worth it?still high Five-ing???

They just want your money,, your tax Money...

Even John Lennon,, sang about the tax man!! You Lennonites, are now supporting him.!!

    Congrats!

    Sorry,, It was George Harrison.

    Lyrics to 'TAX MAN."

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me.

    Gooser,

You should not have posted this , cause now it will live forever.

And while not a smoker, I too believe a lot of bad would go away if MJ was legalized and regulated like alcohol. Young people need to be educated on both and while some will always push the envelope, most will not.

And a couple of other things:

I have never seen or been around a mean stoner but have had more than my share of mean drunks.

I have never seen a person in the OR with weed poisoning but have seen it with alcohol.

And if you can't drink in public you don't smoke in public. Treat it the same as a beer.

You clearly haven't seen the effects of pot. Nobody thinks alcohol is a problem until they live with a drunk.

More than my share. And more long term damage from alcohol than pot. Each of us have unique experiences with all types of abuse. I can only speak to my exposures and experiences.
