Default Pattern Blinds/ Cold Blinds what comes first

Talking with the local pro the other day he mentioned some people run pattern blinds before teaching cold blinds and some do it the other way around. What do most people do? Whats the pros and cons to doing these in different orders? Thanks a lot.

By the way when I was surfing the web earlier on this topic I came across Freddy Kings self training the hunting retriever and he runs cold blinds before patterns.

Before they become pattern blinds they are cold blinds.
Gentle in what you do. Firm in how you do it.

To me, a pattern blind is just force to pile in a whole lot more variations (distance, angle, repetitions).

I disagree , at my house before they are pattern blinds , they are TAUGHT blinds. Cold blinds come after patterns for me

I am am through with Force to pile WELL before starting patterns, hopefully the only force he will see after the original FTP will be at swimby (unless it is in an individual training lesson)

Pattern blinds are a logical next step following FTP. They are pre-identified the same way you identified the pile when running FTP. Pattern blinds are, I believe, simply a pre-identified blind that is usually re-run, and arranged in a pattern, i.e. a classic 3-leg pattern.

I too disagree.... I teach my pattern blinds as “walk up” blinds.

I have 4 that I teach in my yard (in a different place from where I do any “pile work”)

    one day I teach a blind... (#1)
The next day I run #1 “cold” then teach #2...

The following day we run #1 and #2 cold and teach #3 .... etc... etc...

for about a week I will run the 4 blinds. increasing momentum, understanding,a nd working on casts... on occasion we can return to these blinds if we need to work on a concept (i.e. poison bird under and arc) or simply to build momentum with a nervous dog on blinds once we venture out to “cold blinds” .

Pretty much just like Danielle, except I have three legs. And I will also return to them for the same reasons

Not everybody uses pattern blinds @ all. It all depends on which program you follow.

I definitely agree that pattern blinds should come before cold blinds. Seems like pattern blinds would be too easy for a dog that can successfully run cold blinds.
