    Default This morning

Last spring we created a wetland on a piece of property where I do a lot of nature photography. My landowner hired a maintainer to come in and scoop out a 100' X 150' depression about 12" deep. We didn't get water into it until around April 15 so didn't get to use it until most of the migratory ducks had left. Used it for dove hunting this winter and so couldn't feed until after dove season. This morning was my first opportunity to actually sit in one of the blinds in "winter" (it was a bit over 80 deg. by midday today). Had a flock of about 8 or 10 mottled ducks look at it several times, but I think my lens protruding from the blind spooked them (time to hang up a fake lens). Did have this one lone redhead drop in and spend about an hour swimming amongst the dekes. I think it's my first redhead to photograph.

Nothing spectacular, but it did have good color, and the light was pretty nice. Never really realized what pretty ducks they were.

Nice work. Fowl photography takes a great deal of patience.

Thanks so much, but I really think spectacular is too much. That image is one of my favorites from this morn, but it's just a duck sitting on the water, until I get some cool action or learn to photograph them in flight as some on this board, I'm gonna have to be satisfied with "nice" or perhaps "adequate". One thing that drove me crazy was that apparently I put the dekes out just right because that redhead landed, swam straight to the 5 deke spread, and spent the rest of the morning making friends with the plastic ducks. Only occasionally did it swim into a gap that allowed a clean shot. Very frustrating. I have many more like the one with the pintail hen in the background than shots with the intended target alone. I just hope that in the next few weeks I get some real sprigs to come in and give me a chance to get something that really deserves spectacular.

    Thanks again!

I will stick with spectacular, again call it luck or skill, you captured the drip stream off the bill and then the prior drip in a sphere just above the water. I like pictures or paintings that have a subject then something in the background or on the subject that you did not see initially just jumps out at you. Kind of a dual subject pic.

Bet you can not reproduce that drip in 1000 more pics. Good job.
