Too many retrieves. I like to stuff tube socks with pillow stuffing and tie a knot in the top. That way I still have something to hold onto to throw, instead of paint rollers.

I then move to fire hose bumpers.

Good stuff! Thanks again for all the input. We are letting the pup be a pup. Socializing/exploring daily. Retrieves about 4-5 days a week, but I plan to dial it back some based on your feedback. We are definitely enjoying her puppyhood - and she's already growing up so quickly.

Something for you to study, keep in your back pocket and refer to often. Much of it will be over you head now so just concentrate on the early puppy stuff. Treat this like a text book "outline" as details a new bee needs are not included.

Hi all. Sincere thanks again for all your guidance, lessons learned, and best practices. I got in touch with a breeder in Sterling, VA who gave me 4 frozen ducks.

And... drum roll... at just 13 weeks old, I've got my female chocolate lab retrieving frozen teals to hand at a distance of ~15 yards, 5 retrieves in a row. I stop after 5 throws and keep her excited about the "game."

I can post a video if anyone's interested; I'm a very proud papa.
