    Default Puppy Pricing Confusion

What is the best way to pick a breeding? It gets confusing when looking at the different litters and pricing. You see two comparable litters and one is $2000 per puppy and the other is $1000. Does the saying you get what you pay for hold true in the retriever world?

look at the genetics i only go as far back as grandparents anything more then that and the amount that they put into the put doesn't really matter. then look at previous breedings and see what the offspring have done. also look and see what traits the parents are throwing. that is how i justify a price for a pup. some may say other thing but this is just my 2 cents.
I have never understood why you can have the best trained dogs in the world, but when you put two dogs together the act like they have a half a brain between the both of them.

location, location, location and supply and demand. Only you can tell if a $2000 pup is worth it to YOU. I have a boy here that I paid significantly less than $2000 but would have more ! And you could not buy him from me today for any price

The breeding might not be as comparable as you think. Two litters out of the same sire could be very different depending on the female that it is bred to. Even if the breeding on the female is similar. The locals may know something about the female that you don't. And then you have to look at the clearances to see if that is really the same or if there are differences.

I think the location thing does play into it. Maybe not as much for high speed FT breedings, but HT breedings I believe it does. Don't be afraid to have a puppy shipped to you.

I too agree the pricing seems difficult to get a grasp on. Especially when puppies of the same litter have different price tags.

The male/female thing plus maybe because of EIC carrier or clear?

Does having a first litter female also lessen the cost? Or does it just depend?
