Default Labrador Retriever from 1930s? Who is this dog?

The attached photo is from the 1939 edition of the AKCs Purebred Dog(a great find at a thrift store)! My Q is: Does anyone know who this dog was and his history?

    Thanks in advance!

Well, this started off as a really interesting thread. Too bad we couldn't keep it that way. (Rick_C 2009, Classic RTF)

Actually, I have a few pictures of Banchory dogs, and it looked familiar. Did a google search for Banchory images, and it lead me right back to RTF....
