Default Tri-Tronics Tracer Light - Buyer beware

I just bought a Tracer light for my tri-tronic collar receiver. The screws which are supplied with the tracer light that must be used to install the tracer light are way to short. I could only get about 1 1/2 threads in to the receiver (with great difficulty) when I installed the light. Evidently this problem is known by tri-tronics but they have ignored it to date. The online vendor I purchased it from was gracious enough to offer a dogtra beacon light in exchange when I questioned the screw length of the tri-tronic tracer light. I declined the offer and will take up the matter with tri-tronics should I lose my battery, or worse have my receiver damaged due to water intrusion. I like the fact I can turn the light off and on from my tri-tronic transmitter, you cannot with the dogtra beacon light I was offered. I also live on a mountain and get a lot of fog here which I need a light for and would rather not be without one while I go through the exchange process.

If you haven't bought a tracer light from tri-tronics I recommend you do not until this issue has been addressed by tri-tronic.

I bought two of them years ago, and will never use them again. Constantly having discharged batteries and ultimately water in the receiver. Nobody I know, who has used them has had anything good to say about them.

I should add that tri-tronics did take care of my concerns when I contacted them. I just chose to quit using the tracers to avoid future problems.

I have had them on two of my collars for 2yrs and have no problems, other than rarely they turn on for no apparent reason

I didn't say it doesnt work. The problem is with the supplied screws to install it. They are to short. Only 1 1/2 threads in to the receiver body is an invitation to a lost battery in the field, or worse in the water. Receiver would be toast should that happen.

And I didn't say that you said that it didn't work.

Mine works fine, as in, the screws that came with mine work fine. Is that better?

They seem to be fairly exotic screws so I guess ACE Hardware is out of the question.. Blue Loctite??

For $44 you can go to the dollar store and buy a lot of the cheap glow necklaces the kids like.

Renee - The online vendor did mention that some of the receivers seem to have different setting of the screw hole receptacles in the receiver body, in that more threads are able to be screwed in. You must be one of the lucky ones.

Did I really pay $44 for it? Yikes.

I bought it about 1.5 years ago. I remember having to wrestle with the screws to install it.

I wish the light it emits were brighter, and the receiver has to be in line of sight for me to see it on the dog, so I don't find the light to be all that useful.

Better than nothing, though. Besides, I lost the original screws to the transmitter so I guess the tracer light is on the receiver for good now LOL

I did about the same thing and bought some cheap $14 lights that attach to a collar by sliding on;they have a constant or flash mode.
