Default Goodness Rowdy (by Pirate) What a crazy move

Yesterday we did a HT setup: walkup, flyer, blind and honor. Then moved the line 90 degrees and moved out to 290 yds. Then did a white coat flyer. I didn't know what to think about the crazy move he made at the very end of the retrieve. Wierd.

It looked good until just as he came out of ditch, at about 37sec, obvious major change of direction. You needed to blow hard and stop him before he got closer to the guns and handle to the bird.
You should be prepared in advance to act quickly if and when your dog does this or doesn't do that.
    Keep whistle in your mouth.

If this was what you were talking about, you need to get a cameraman along with a bird boy so that they can follow with the zoom. When he is just a speck, pretty hard to tell what's going on. If coming right back and handing you the bird is what you were referring to, I thought that's what we are all training toward.

Oh! Oh! I think I've got it now. Didn't I hear a little mouthful bark?

If so, I think I'd encourage that. A nice little signature move. Nice to give the judges something to chuckle about.

On second look maybe the flare happened to quick to do anything about it. Good to note the what ifs when you set up marks.
Take note on video of tree he was headed at when he wen't down into ditch. Then note the same tree relative to where he picks up the bird.
Now look at bigger tree just to left. I would prefer dog stay right of that tree for example.
Just sayin if it was me.

I had two live shooters with white coats out. According to shooters the duck was laying on the ground flopping and Rowdy was about 10 yds from it when he decided to loop around the back side of the gun station and go pick up the duck. It happened so quick!

Sometimes, s*** happens. Often, you won't know why.
Unless it becomes a habit...I wouldn't worry much about it.
