She sounds like she was a real character! If it werent for the wonderful dogs that share their lives with us, I dont know what we would do or how we would get through life!

    Ted,

My condolences on your loss of Mootsie. She certainly sounds like she was a wonderful, mischievous companion that kept you on your toes, and working for her .

Thanks for taking the time to share the "personal" side of Mootsie. Some of us that didn't have the good fortune to see her run could read her results and others' comments and know she was a great working dog. Thanks for showing us the other side of her too...I bet we all wish we could have met her and had the good fortune of her stealing our sandwiches after we got to throw marks for her in the field.

Again sorry for your loss, hold your memories tight, and thanks for sharing your special thoughts of Mootsie with all of us.

I've always had a soft spot for the old dogs. As a judge it always brings a smile to my face when a gray face walks to the line. I took in a clients dog Ribbon when she got old, because the client didn't want to deal with an old dog and focus on the young one. Really miss that dog. Every house should have a puppy and an old dog to make it complete

Sorry for your loss, Ted. And I agree with /Paul; to me those grizzled old sweethearts are the reward for putting up with a retriever's very lengthy adolescence. My old girl Puffin, who is almost 14, is asleep at my feet, in a ray of sunshine; too cold outside for old dogs today. I'm worried about who will raise the young heathens when she's gone.

Sorry for you loss. I have an old cattle dog with that nails on a chalkboard bark. It's his I want something bark, luckily it drops an octave when a stranger comes around.

I cringe almost every time I hear it, but know that someday I will miss it

So very, very sorry, Ted. "Mootsie" had a grand life, and incredibly interesting...all the "Mootsie" stories that we read because you took the time to share them.

A wonderful tribute to her here....and your kindness to us in your closing words...

"I know each of you have your own Mootsie - a special dog with a special place in your heart.

What a wonderful thing for each of us to cherish"

    Godspeed, "Mootsie", sweet girl...

    Heartfelt Condolences, Ted...

Thanks again for everyone's support. Each time I speak with someone who knew Mootsie brings a smile to my face.

Along with stealing food, Mootsie was notorious for stealing handling gloves. Bev Ensley reminded me in an email I received today:

I will miss her too, crying as I write. Wonder what she did with all those gloves she stole!

Mootsie was the Queen of her world. Love live the Queen!

    Heartfelt condolences.

A photo taken after one of my most successful field trials - the 2004 Nebraska Retriever Club Fall Trial

    From Left to Right:
Mootsie (FC/AFC Smooth Operator) won the Qualifying
Ace (FC/AFC Sky Hy Husker Power) won the Amateur
Buffy (FC/AFC Freeridin Vampire Slayer) won the Derby
Britt (Duncan's Britt) took 4th in the Qualifying

All but Buffy, who is sleeping in my office, have left us.
