Bon, that's a much better recommendation than a total pig with no desire to retrieve...

There have been some interesting stories on this forum about first dogs who went on to become pretty recognized for what they do.

Bill : even you have to admit that on more than one occasion newbies have asked about a Sire after they have already chosen to purchase a pup from a litter or worse yet after they already have the pup...The time to ask those question is BEFORE the purchase...its like buying a BMW and asking "...how is this vehicle going to handle at 65mph ?"

Now if what they want is confirmation from the masses that they got a potentially nice pup, or if they are surreptitiously trying to drum up some interest in an upcoming litter, then let the games begin.

I am as big a Cosmo fan as anyone...maybe because the owner lives in Boise ID..and Cosmo does get a bit of an overhyped bad rap for the "potential " type of pups he sires...But I do know that he also throws some of the finest marking dogs around and one need not look much further than the National's in the last decade to support that premise

He should never have to ask this question in a few months. My puppy has quit retrieving. Could he be teething?

Currently have a 2 year old Comso pup and Cosmo grandsire on the bottom. Legs do get in front of his brain at times.

I think I remember seeing Mark Wardlaw run this dog as a youngster.

I'm curious to know the breeding on the bitch. The sires pedigree is NICE. Kade, it sounds like you may be following some good advice. Doesn't sound like you are going into this cold turkey at all. Keep us informed.

If the dam was born in 2006, she is nearly 8 years old. There's a good chance that she has been bred before.

You might want to ask that question, and ask about who she was bred to before, and what those puppies turned out to be.

Apparently this is a repeat breeding, and I've heard the puppies from before have done good, but no names or records on them. I'll just have to wait and see what I can make of her, I'll definitely be putting plenty of time in to her
