The tracking was impressive. I don't know how well the dog marked. I guess he handled in the area of the fall as soon as the dog got there. I'm not sure how they judge dogs over there. Still pretty cool video.

    edit....
I'm fairly certain the only cast was right up front then it was all dog.
From the applause and comment, dog may well have won the day, I don't know.

I do believe the whistle you heard once he got to what we would call the AOF was a hunt it up type whistle. They wouldn't be marked down for that. As I understand it, in their game it was an excellent mark. Keep in mind their marking is considerably different than our marking (at least how it is scored and expected to play out). In our game we would call that a no bird, but over there it would not be. Impressive dog with a good nose.

I don't know how to score it as a mark.
It was a very nice trail! Kinda similar to what happens in SD many times a day all over the state during pheasant season.

It reminds me of a trial I ran where they were using hen pheasants in some fairly heavy cover. The flyer gunners both shoot but miss my flyer. It goes down in fall area just a little deep of the others. The judges give me my number. I send my dog. I said to the judges, "I don't think they hit that bird." Judges both say "Oh yea, they hit it." My dog puts small hunt in the fall area and then starts hunting toward the middle bird. I said "she's tracking something." One of the judges says "Looks like she's switching, to me". Luckily for me, she picked up the live hen pheasant in the fall area of the middle bird. I'm not sure the judges would have given me a rerun if she had picked up the dead bird instead.

Breck, as you know how the judging would go at a field trial (No bird at first blush, er, flush), would this be judging as at a NAVHDA test or a NAHRA test, or judging my own test for how my dog digs out and delivers something fit for my table?

I just liked the dog's style a lot when I saw the vid. He sure knew how to handle a live cock pheasant. See him do the back flip?
