    Default Rabies Exemption in Canada

Does anyone know if Canada, more specifically, Ontario, recognize a Rabies Exemption for dogs? The form would originate from New York State. Thanks.

For Ontario residents, Ontario Regulation 567/90 provides a legal waiver for rabies vaccination exemption. However, will Ontario recognize a NYS waiver?

Have a certificate and letter from your vet with details, description of the dog and letting the border know your area is rabies free. Be sure you go at a time when the border personnel can phone your vet. If it is a puppy no vaccine needed but carry papers and details. I have gone across with my pup and no rabies. To be absolutely sure as no one wants to get somewhere and find out something other than what you heard or read call Canada customs. Others will chime in here!!! Good luck!

If your in massena, might be woth the short drive to canadian customs and ask the actual border guards you'll be dealing with for their thoughts on it. Get their name for when you actually cross, seem like they each have the own opinion version of rules. Just live west of cornwall myself

Regulations re Rabies vac and border crossing, are under Agriculture Canada jurisdiction. Ie Federal, not provincial. Even if Ontario recognized such an exception, (which I am not aware of) Ag Canada rules will apply.

easier than ny exemption cert would be to cross with a 1 yr rabies cert.
