Default Rowdy (by Pirate) Final Preparations

Final days before Derby. Two of his marks today.
M1 is 250 yds. M2 is 195. I didn't have a primer in M1 as it was in some cover that is a tinderbox. It was throw as an angle back and just over the horizon. See that thing that Rowdy ran toward at first. Months ago there was a blind there. It is a capped gas well head, I think. I had forgot about the blind but Rowdy recalled it and checked it out before getting back on line.
There was no whistles but I had it in my mouth just in case.

I made two mistakes: the first time I called for the bird (practice as I was launching), I told him here as he looked toward M2. I knew I was doing that as there was no primer in M1, the second mistake was on M2 I used the wrong hand to call for the birds (again practice). I should have used my opposite to the dog hand.

    Pray for me.

While we were there we did an honor. Shadow working dog, Rowdy by my side and honoring.

P.S. We'll train tomorrow morning then leave for Giddings mid afternoon.
Thanks to those who have wished me good luck already.

Good luck Wayne ! Don't forget at a field trial there is NO attention getting noise before the mark is thrown . They throw then shoot, so make sure you move to pull /or push the dog after seeing the first bird go down, but don't do it to fast, let him get a look at that first bird. PAY ATTENTION to how much time the judges are giving, before calling for the second bird on the dogs that run before you.

Bad luck in the draw. No. 3. One person in front of me is running in open. So I may be no. 2. Egad!

    Good luck!

I have enjoyed watching Rowdy progress thus far - you should do just fine! Focus!
Great advice from Bridget - if they are giving you a good long look, don't rush things.

I have only run 2 derbies with my home trained dog, but I learned the hard way . . . If at all possible when going from the blind to the line, heel the dog so that your body hides the flyer station! The dog is going to see that one no matter what. I failed to do that in my first run and never could get my pup to look at the memory bird. Out on the first series! Mostly just have fun, this time just disappears and then your pup is aged out. Rowdy looks ready!
