Default Goofing Around with Mutt Dogs (Retriever training with non-retriever Shelter Dog)

Here are a few pics taken by training partner Jordan Stoune. Marks were thrown by her dad, Bill Stoune - my go-to training partner these days.

Here is Gypsum, the Foster pup who came with 10 sibngs and his mom 4 days after wardens darted and noose-poled her, to my home as a foster. Gypsum's mom was in quarantine at the animal shelter and she whelped 11 pups on day 2 of quarantine. Most dogs that I've had, I got at 7 weeks of age or later. Gypsum's been at my home since he was 2 days old.

One weekend when I was at a trial, my wife, who promised that everyone would leave, advised the dog that got returned had a new last name: "Atkinson".

Since then he's rode along on a few training sessions.

    He doesn't know he's not a lab.

    Here's one with the lab:

"Determining and applying the criteria for when and when not to use correction is the essence of the art of dog training. I make a distinction between a mistake and a lack of effort." - Mike Lardy - Volume I "After Collar Conditioning"

Great job Chris!! He looks like he could be part Chessie, in the face/head anyway. I rescued a young heeler mix years ago that turned out to be an awesome retriever (and a great dog) - went to a family w/ six kids to throw balls for him.

He is a beautiful dog! When I decide to quit retrievers I want a pitty to do competition obedience with. I kid around about them but I have had a few in my life and they are really great dogs.

Looks like a chessie. NAHRA hunt tests. I'll tell Paul you switched to chessies. The eyes tell all.
