It's never easy to say goodbye. They all own a piece of our hearts. Sounds like the two of you were a good team and best buddies. My condolences

Thanks everyone. I posted the same message up on Facebook and everyone on there was very nice. Everyone here was just as nice, but you all know the time and effort it takes to get "there", whatever "there" is for each person, and the kind of bond that developes. I don't know when I'll get another dog, but I will. Right now, I'm just not sure I can handle another bond that deep knowing that it will end sooner than I want.
Again, thanks and give your pooches an extra pet tonight from me and JD.

I am sorry for your loss. JD sounds like a special dog and you were obviously very special to each other. I lost my first dog to renal failure. He was just a mutt, but he was my mutt and I loved him dearly. The vet told me if I didn't let her put him down I would be calling her during the night begging her to stop his suffering, so I let him go while it appeared he had some will to live left, which was hard, but like your dog he would no longer eat. The end was near and you did the last best thing you could do for him. Take some comfort in that. Rest in Peace JD.
