Thread: British field background ever make Derby List

Default British field background ever make Derby List

    Howdy folks,

I was wondering if anyone is aware of any pups that have a British Field Trial pedigree and have made it on the derby list. Just to clarify by British pedigree I mean British lines within a 4 generation pedigree. Not talking about British methods or canoe labs or any of that junk just wondering if any have made it to the derby list. Thank you in advance.

    Don't overlook the UK's own derby (pronounced dar-by) list: United-Man City, Liverpool-Everton, West Brom-Villa, Spurs-The Arse, etc.

And of course the Epsom Derby, where listed among this year's runners is a horse named Toast of New York.

As for retrievers, you'll find Holway Barty's progeny on derby lists from the not terribly distant past - Goldens. Don't think any Labs will fit your parameters (four generations) but may be wrong.

I know 1/2 a handfull in this area managed to Qualify All-Age but know of none to actually make Derby List.

For puppies from proven British sires and dams with Maybe the potential to compete here at US trials you need to have baby puppy bred from 2 field champions flown directly to you from UK or Ireland. British pedigree puppies bred in the US are for the most part bred from unproven (in competition) dogs. Usually brood bitches with zero accomplishments or titles bred to imported field trial winners at best.

Hmm I'm not sure how you would look such a thing up. I can't say I've ever heard of anyone on the derby list, worrying about whether their dog was British, Irish, Mexican, black, white. polka-dot or brown. I'm sure there's been a few, out of untitled parents (who knows where they might've come from). Their owners are usually smiling and floating off the ground, that you'd have to jump pretty high to ask.

We usually concentrate on the 'Grand National' rather than the 'Derby' over here.

You're probably talking about Labs, but A British import Golden named Holway Barty got his AFC. He had a son named Topbrass Cotton who got his NAFC.

AFC Holway Barty sired the following dogs:

    •FC AFC Topbrass Mandy
    •FC AFC Cherryhill's Rowdy Rascal
    •AFC Topbrass Gatsby
    •AFC Topbrass Gifford
    •AFC Kiowa's Holliday Joy
    •AFC Sportin' Kelly
    and numerous QAAs

Topbrass Cotton sired the following dogs:

    FC AFC Topbrass Dustbuster
    FC AFC Topbrass Tyonek
    AFC Topbrass Comet
    FC Topbrass Abilene
and Wraith's Duncan who himself sired FC AFC FTCH AFTCH TNT Explosion among other notable field titled dogs.

They have some pretty good field blood over the pond.

    Not sure about Labs.

Oh that's interesting. I didn't know Topbrass Cotton was sired by an import. Was he titled when imported? Litter mates titled over there? Is there another Rugby lying by a pub stool somewhere?

Here is Barty's story on Jackie Merten's web site. He was imported as a 16 month old and titled here to his AFC. Not sure if he had titles in the UK before import, but I doubt it.

I can't imagine how one could find out without first hand knowledge or a desire to spend a ton of time researching.
