Default I've decided I do like more dog power

So I went to my HRC training day just to kind of get my "seeing dogs retrieve" fix. I saw a lot of young dogs and people training to get to the higher levels. I was kind of taken aback by what I discovered. I discovered the dogs that bolted from the line with gusto and came back with a bit of that wild eyed "Wahooooo!" look I liked a lot. I used to say that I don't want a fire breather and I still don't, but I do want that dog with some fire in the belly that wants get there and back faster so it can get another bird. I also realized that was what my boy, that passed, was like when he was younger.

    What do you all like?

My perfect dog would be steady and thoughtful on heel and on line, then spring off line like a wild demon, flash through cover and hard going with ease, yet be willing to turn over the controls and handle when asked to. On top of that he or she would have the "bottom" to handle pressure and come back from a big correction or attrition with that same eager to go attitude. Getting all that in one dog is hard and what makes those dogs special.

I like a dog that sizzles out on marks and blinds. Point release and watch em go!

I had what we call calculated dogs in the past, my new pup sizzles, but when a train wreck happens it happens fast!

Give me a dog that sizzles and is tractable any day of the week, I'll never own any other kind.

My 21 month old pup is my 1st dog. At our last HT the judges were 10' directly behind us. They were hit with dirt from his hind paws when he launched. I say "launch" because if you have ever watched a fighter jet launch from a catapault on a carrier, you know exactly what I mean-- 0 to 100mph in 2 seconds. He returns the bird with the same gusto. I'm not sure that he is the perfect type of dog for a 1st time trainer, but he sure puts a smile on my face every time he launches.

I've ran a Fire-breather many-times; a dog always on the edge, is unsettling to say the least. There's just no draw to owning one for me.

Bingo, had one that was talented, good looking, easy to live with, fun to watch, but really wasn't very fun to train or run for that matter pretty self employed, the three have now go with the same speed and style but are much more team players, and much more enjoyable to train and handle. No fun working on line manners every time out..
