    Default Name Game

After 10 years I'm getting a new sporting dog. He is a Sussex Spaniel and he arrives on Friday. He is a year old but doesn't have a name. Now the challenge. It is a "Z" litter so I need the name to begin with "Z". He is brown if that helps. I'm sure there is someone out there who is creative.

Is there a kennel name, who are sire and dam? Sometimes that gives you a starting point.

Oh, Cindy, when I first started reading, thought you were coming back to Labs

I've always liked the name Zorro or Zues

He already has a registered name. It's Three D's Foo Fighter. Don't know if the breeder is referring to the rock band or a UFO. HUMMMM Does not have a call name. This is going to be hard as I like Merlin.

Howdy, Cindy - wow, remembering all the nice things you had to say way back when about my Sussex (now 12, but looking pretty much the same as the day she was born, i.e. very ooold) -

and here all these years later you're in there with a working Sussex of your own! If you're using the old boy for retrieving, Zorro (as in "Mark of...") would be a pretty cool handle.

Or given the Suss' unique shape -

and the "rock-on" theme - Zeppelin might be the ticket.

Or...in deference to that Packer legend and Milwaukee restaurateur Buckets Goldenberg (inventor of the draw play), and again with the Sussex' shape in mind, maybe Zonk or Zitti. (By the way, should my Sussex outlive me, she's bequeathed my Packers' stock.)

Congratulations and welcome back, and looking forward to hearing about your experiences with as idiosyncratic a gundog as ever was,

    MG
