This was probably the first non-dog, just for fun, road trip we have made in over 15 years! To celebrate our 35th anniversary, Ralph bought tickets to see C,S & N while we were still in Taos. At the time we did not know quite where we would be or what we would do with the pups. Thanks to Dave Burton, (Labman63) we have a place to stay and he told us about a boarding kennel opened by a hunt test/retriever trainer person that I knew from years back, Stacy Overcash. Folks, just let me say that she runs a first class operation. I have never seen a cleaner, better organized facility and Stacy knows how to handle dogs! She did great with my two labs and one chessie. All are happy and in great shape and probably cleaner than when they were dropped off last Thursday. Even though it is a 5 hour round trip from here to her place, it was well worth it. Its great knowing that Ralph and I can do stuff every now and then without taking along the whole circus tent! If you are in the Carolinas and in need of boarding, look up SkyMark Kennels!
John Kelder put on a whale of a tailgate feed with everything from Goose sticks to venison sausage and pepper sandwiches. If we get a chance to return to NY anytime soon, I would love to train with him. Just one of the really nice guys in the world.
The show itself exceeded all my expectations. It was surprising how strong the voices still are. It took Crosby a while to wake up and get into the show, but once he was there, he was THERE! Stills is the power house and Nash is the ring leader. It all came together and worked beautifully. The only downer was not hearing Suite Judy Blue Eyes or Wooden Ships, but they had to stop somewhere and those are both looonnnnggg songs.
If you are a "boomer" you owe it to yourself to go see Bethel Woods. What an incredibly beautiful place.
