Thread: Prices for field champions

    Default Prices for field champions

I was talking to someone pretty recently and they told me some of these field trial champions could and have sold for race horse type money. Is that true? Do these dogs get into 6 figures?

6 figures? Sure $100,000 + is not uncommon. Even some untitled dogs sell in that neighborhood or Derby dogs with a boat load of points. Rumors put the highest price range somewhere around $250K - $300K.
"Darla" AFC Candlewoods Lil Smokin Tequila (2002-2013)(fondly remembered)
"Smoke" Smokin Auggies Menace, QAA (2003- )(retired nut case, ask Rando)
"Simba" Humewood Simba (1999-2014)(my 1st dog)

Buyers and sellers do not abound at those prices, only a handful of sellers and a fewer buyers, maybe 2 or 3 multiple time buyers. $25K to $40K is more the norm and more of those but not that many.

Divorce lawyers on the side that don't have the dog seem to like higher numbers.

Ummmm . . . I think for race horses, at least good ones, you have to have at least one more "0" in there.

That's insane. Why would anyone spend that on a FC? I mean, the only reason I could see would be to breed from it and as far as that goes I would think stud fees would be much more reasonable than dropping 6 figures on a dog just to say you own someone else's accomplishment

Because they want to win and because they can and to those few $100K is pocket change.

The most recent KY Derby Winner was out of a mare that was very low priced as far as the horse game goes...

HaHa!... This was a long time ago... I told the ex if she would give me half of what she thought the dog was worth, she could have the dog... That put a stop to it. My dog at the time was 7 years old. I told them there was no market for 7 year old AFC's. But... They were giving it their best shot
