    Default Couple new issues training

Getting ready for duck season with my 8 month old BLF. So excited!! Hope we have water.

I have 2 questions about new things that my dog was doing.
    1. In the park yesterday, had her sit at a heel position. Told her to mark and then threw the bumper. When I did my usual release using her name and hand motion she took off like a rocket. Burned passed the bumper by 5 yards (not unusual, sometimes her brakes aren't ABS). But then she didn't pick-up the bumper. Trotted around but didn't want to pick it up. No real distractions. Any ideas?

    2. She is not FF (my next task). However she normally never drops in fact I have to use pressure with my "drop" command. When we were training in the pond she would retrieve no problem, but as soon as she hit shore she dropped the bumper on the bank. Thoughts?

Yep time to FF. My 8 month old is doing the same exact thing. She didn't start doing it until we were part way thru FF and I had to stop all marks. She just told you picking up and holding is a choice, you need to teach her otherwise. This is a pretty normal thing btw.

In the park---rabbit crap or goose crap around there? White objects, even a soda cap?

"she normally never drops" and "8 month old BLF"

The above two quotes in combination suggest something else (possibly).

Is she coming into her first heat?

Interesting point. Never would have thought of that.

have you used birds recently in your training that maybe she blinked the bumper wanting a bird?

Yes, she has been getting birds since she was 5 weeks old. I throw pigeons for her a couple times a week. They are definitely her favorite.
