Default How Would You Judge This?

At Central Louisiana HRC's 30th Anniversary hunt test last weekend, the Finished judges set up a very nice down the shore water blind that was about 80 yards. Gumbo was running a "text book" blind for 70 yards when a man, wearing no shirt, steps on the blind pole (literally ON the pole) and starts casting a fishing rod into the lake. Well, Gumbo was not going to go near a man with a "heeling stick" and gave me cast refusal after cast refusal. Finally, the marshal went down and asked the man to move away. When the man moved, Gumbo took one whistle straight to the bird. How would you judge this? No one had ever encountered a situation like this before....me or the judges. I will say that the judges we had made a great decision.

I would chalk all the cast refusals up to interference and grade you on the rest of the blind. I don't think a re-run would be a good idea in this case.

should have taken in consideration the interference and when the problem was cleared and the cast was taken to the blind ,,,,passed Gumbo.

That's exactly how the judges judged it. Gumbo passed. Great minds think alike!

Multiple cast refusals and failure to deliver a Bud Light from the fisherman's cooler. Dog is out.

I would have asked you to give Gumbo the "Sick Balls" command to clear the worm dunker out of the test.

I think the judges did a good job. Congratulations on your pass.

That's because you had two good judges.
"Force fetch isn't about retrieving as much as it is conditioning a dog to handle pressure, in a very controlled environment. It's about putting a dog in the position of having to figure out how to turn off pressure by finding the correct response. This translates into numerous areas in training." Sharon Potter.
