Lots of options out there and many answers
We use a raised platform that filters the dirt and water away from the dog.
Lou Magee made ours " truck beds" and they have held up well
Dk
One of my dogs is a big mat chewer and can turn a rubber mat into a pile of chunks in an hour. He is on a plastic coated metal mat on the pro's truck. I am looking at Nat's mats for his hole. Are they rigid enough to prevent him from pulling up a corner and chewing it? Any other suggestions?
I have nat's mats in my trailer and I have a dog right now that insist on digging when you first put him in there. So far he hasn't done any damage to the mat. Had them about a year and I like them thus far.
I use memory foam bath mats. They seem to dry quickly and are cheap. I pay about $10 for them. They do get chewed up easily though so if you have a chewer, probably not an option. I know a few people who have the kuranda style beds made by Lou and they are very nice and dogs seem to really enjoy them. The only issue is jumping into the box, they have to navigate a little more to get in.
Go to your local 'Farm Home' store and check out the rubber mats for horse trailers! They are HEAVY rubber, dogs cannot chew them! One mat at around $40 will make 3-4 mats, depending on how large the floor space is! They are hard to cut, but a good straight edge with sharp heavy duty blade does the job. Many of us who have trailers use these mats, they last forever, and are very soft on the dogs, also easy to clean up.
Check out the "Cross-Rib Matting" from Dura-grid. Heavy duty interlocking tiles. They are easy to cut to size, just flexible enough to ensure a tight fit, and more affordable than Nats Matts. I've been very happy.
I just ordered a product just like nats mats just less expensive. They seem to be the exact mat sold in 12 inch by 12 inch sections. I had nats mats in a previous box and loved them. Now I have the heavy rubber mats and hate them. They don't drain at all and the holes begin to smell like hell because of all the trapped water underneath. Without a way for water to drain you end up with odor and filth.
